It's Thursday morning, and Jaxon has got up without a fever for the first time all week. Praise the Lord! Thank you all for your prayers. I know that I am extremely behind on keeping up with my blog... but I felt like I needed to update everyone on how Jaxon was doing before I posted any more pictures. So today's posts will be a little out of order... to say the least.
It all started Sunday. Jax was clingy and acting kind of weird all day. I didn't think he felt good, but he wasn't running a fever. About 1 o'clock Monday morning, that all changed. He woke up crying and was really warm. At 4:30 a.m, his temp had reached 102.3. I was supposed to keep Bailey Monday, so I called Kelly and told her Jaxon had a temp and that she might want to make other arrangements for Monday. All day Monday, we battled fever. I had decided that I would take him to the doctor Tuesday morning, because we were having a hard time breaking his fever.
Justin, Jaxon and I went to bed at about 9:45 Monday night. We were laying in bed reading, and at about 10, Jaxon threw up all over me and him. It was a little scary because he acted like it really hurt, like he used to. Jaxon and I were both covered in puke, so we got in the shower. When I got finished, I left him in the tub while the water drained, while I went to the bedroom to put some clothes on. I then went and got him out of the tub. I laid him down on the couch to put a diaper on him and all of a sudden, his eyes fixed and he got really stiff. His mouth was really strange looking and drool started running out of the corners of his mouth. I kept asking him to look at me, but his eyes were fixed and he wasn't responding at all. I yelled for Justin to come in there. Justin tried talking to him, but he couldn't get a response either. We started grabbing stuff to go to the hospital. We tried putting clothes on Jaxon, but we couldn't get his clothes on because his arms, legs, back and neck were so stiff. He was gasping for breath and his lips were turning purple. We wrapped him in a blanket and ran to the car. I held him in the front seat. Justin called 911. When we hit 121, Jaxon finally came out of the seizure. His little body went limp and he looked up at me. I said, "Mommy's got you buddy, okay?" He said, "Okay." He was finally responding after being in a seizure for almost ten minutes.
When we got to the ER, they were waiting on him. His temperature had reached 105.6. They (after much effort and many sticks) got him hooked up to an IV and got some fluids in him. They did a cat scan and a chest x-ray. They did a flu swab and a strep test. Everything came back negative. The doctors confirmed that Jaxon had a febrile seizure.
They kept us over night at Mayfield, and sent us home about 11 a.m. Tuesday morning. We weren't really happy to be being sent home since our son still had a fever. He ran close to a 104 fever the rest of the day Tuesday. He woke up with a 103.8 fever Wednesday morning. I took a cold bath with him and we went to see his pediatrician in Murray. Dr. Austin confirmed all of the same things that Mayfield did. He had a febrile seizure. We had to get the fever under control. He gave him some amoxicillin to fight off any virus that he may have. The rest of Wednesday was rough and whiny...
And this morning, it broke. Jaxon is still not completely being himself, but he has no fever and he is playing. This is such a huge improvement. Thank you all so much for your prayers. We've had a scary week, but I think we may be beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
"At the name of Jesus... the deaf hear, the blind see, the lame walk... and fever breaks."
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus... there's just something about that name...
